Naomi Wright
Naomi Wright is one of the most exciting cellists in the UK. A graduate of The Royal Academy of Music in London, and of The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, USA where she studied with the renowned Steven Doane. She has worked with everybody from The London Mozart Players to Mick Jagger, Björk and Kylie Minogue, and played on numerous film sessions from Harry Potter to Almodóvar's Talk to Her.
Naomi plays with pianists Michael Dussek, Annabelle Lawson and Mari Sakata and has performed solo and chamber music at venues such as the Purcell room, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, St. James' Piccadilly, and Kilborn Hall, Rochester, NY.
Naomi's debut CD will be released on ASC records later this year (2009) with Annabelle Lawson on piano. Also to include Naomi's own composition for solo cello and a new comission by Steve Plews. Future plans are underway to record a whole CD of her own music for solo cello.
Naomi plays with the oud player Attab Haddad in the Attab Haddad Ensemble in which she has the opportunity to improvise and learn about quarter tones. Naomi also collaborates with dancers and has worked on a number of crossover projects involving dance and electronics with Aranea. Future plans include work with the company Pair Dance.
Passionate about education, she teaches for a number of organisations across London and is artistic advisor for the Cellos Rocks cello course. In 2003 she founded a pioneering early years music project in Mumbai, India, which thrives to this day.
