Vasilis Sarikis

Vasilis Sarikis

 

Vasilis has been working as a professional musician since 1998 and had the opportunity to perform live and in TV/radio shows as well as record with a number of major recording singers and instrumentalists.

In 2003 he resided to London where he continues to work as a percussionist and educator.
His academic studies include a BA in Jazz and a MMus in Ethnomusicology from SOAS (completion pending) as well as the PGCE in music.
Vasilis has studied with Nikos Sidirokastritis, Paul Clavis, Asaf Sirkis (drum set), Vangelis Karipis, Nikos Gevgelis (davul, darbucka, riq), Glen Velez (frame drum), Zohar Fresco (frame drum, riq).
He also studied jazz harmony with Nikki Iles and jazz composition and arranging with Stuart Hall and Eddie Parker. To expand his understanding of Middle Eastern music he studied the Arabic nay with Louai Alhenawi.

Currently, Vasilis studies Konnakol with Ghatam V. Suresh, a ghatam master based in Chennai in South India.

He has performed in Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Spain, Portugal,  Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland, Iceland, Morocco and the U.K.
His educational activities include leading percussion workshops in Middlesex University and Kings Place as well as workshops and demonstrations in different schools and academies in the U.K and Sweden.
